My Story

Students proud of their work in the Children's Home in Arriaga, Mexico where I have had the privilege to teach English and Visual Arts on a voluntary basis on several occasions.

Escaping the Canadian cold winter and taking a break from teaching to pursue my passion in Mexico

Since I was little, I've always loved to paint, draw and make a variety of crafts. A life long interest in the beauty of nature continues to inspire me. In my early 20s I was diagnosed with an unusual eye disorder that, over time, has resulted in the total loss of sight in my left eye. But this has not detracted from my eye for detail, if you'll forgive the pun! It's been commented that, "keen observation skills are reflected in the sensitive detail of Yvonne's many landscapes, seascapes, heritage buildings, still life paintings and personal glimpses of nature". Water colour was originally my passion for many years but I also enjoy working in pen and ink and pencil. In more recent years I have also focused on experimenting with acrylics. Teaching has always been in my blood so I love inspiring others, both children and adults, individually and in small groups, helping them to enjoy drawing, painting and crafts locally and internationally.

Born in the verdant hills of Ireland, I emigrated to Canada with my family in 1993. Having retired from elementary school teaching recently, I now enjoy more time to concentrate on my art, crafts and travelling. I currently live in the vibrant community of Guelph in southern Ontario close to some of my much loved children and grandchildren.

My work has been exhibited in Ireland and in several studio tours, art shows and galleries in Ontario.

So often awed by the stunning beauty of God's creation, I offer my artwork in glad appreciation of His tremendous creativity!

I've participated in art and craft exhibits such as the Hills of Erin Studio Tour, Eden Mills Arts Festival, Centre Art Gallery, Orangeville, Guelph Holiday Boutique and the Fergus Fall Festival Community Event. I'm currently a member of the Guelph Creative Arts Association and Guelph Arts Council.
